-- Wide Area Networking Independent Research Club --

Linc was formed in 1992 as the result of the merger of the Japan NeXT Users Group and a Unix enthusiast group called "juice". Linc's mission was to allow for research into the technologies used by the Internet, both on an individual and group basis.
Currently, Linc's members connect to each other via TCP/IP, using eight dedicated data and ISDN circuits, or by using SLIP or PPP on dialup lines.
This innovative network was established to allow Linc members to connect their computers easily to those of other members and to the world-wide Internet, thus allowing the rapid sharing and acquisition of knowledge and research.
Linc's membership is made up not just of those in the computer and communications fields, but also includes doctors, biologists, architects, and artists, to name a few.
Each member is encouraged to take advantage of the club's computer network to keep up with the latest information in his or her own field.
Because the Internet now extends its reach to most parts of the world, Linc members take great pains to ensure that they are not just taking from this resource, but are contributing back to it in any way they can.
